We have given Claire more names than just her legal ones, and we thought we would share.
Claire - Her first given name. It is the middle name of Jeri's Grandma Alice and Great Grandma Lehmann
Isabel - Her middle name. It is the name of Randy's Great Grandma Peterman
Peterman - Her surname. A relic of the oppresive patriarchy inherent in the system.
Blossom - Her alias. Given to people who asked what her name would be before she was born.
Buttercup - Another alias. See above.
Princess - More of a title than a name.
Eclaire - When she is wrapped up for bed she is an Eclaire - a fluffy covering over a sweet center.
Pumpkin - A pet name chosen for its trauma potential when she is a teenager.
Aboborinha - The way you say “Little Pumpkin” in Portuguese
Froggie - Mostly due to some very cute frog clothing sent to us by kind people.
Camel - Her spirit guide (Claire spits up a lot).
Precious - Lord of the Rings reference.
Claire Bear - It has assonance, and she is the child of a bear (Randy).
Claire Bell - A contraction of her middle name.
Monster - She is sometimes a fun (Sesame Street-type) monster.
Flesh-render - A name gained when teeth first appeared; ask Jerusha for more details.
Little girl - A descriptive diminutive.
Sweetie Pie - She is sweet - sometimes.
Stinky-cat - Self explanatory.
Stink-o-potamus - Once again, self explanatory
Grouchy-cat - See above.
Whiney-cat - Claire has learned (in August 2005) how to whine. An example, translated from baby language: “But I like to bite!”
Munchkin - Another diminutive
Mr. Burns - added by a rude hacker, but we will keep it because we like him anyway, and we like The Simpsons.
Boo, or Boo Boo - A noise she makes, a cute diminutive, a game she likes to play, Boo Radley, and the bear famous for being Yogi's sidekick, Boo Boo.
Bot, as in Claire Bot - We have no idea about the origin of this one - we just started calling her Bot one day and it stuck.
Agent of entropy - Claire is rapidly becoming an accomplished agent of entropy. More of a job description than a name.
Izzy - A contraction of her middle name that appeals to Jeri.
Ding Dong - This makes sense if you pronounce her name “Claire is a bell”
Baby Claire - This is what Claire calls herself when she sees a picture or a reflection in the mirror.
Barnacle - Much like the infamous mollusk, Claire attaches herself to something and will not let go.
Critter - A description stolen from our friends Rob & Rachel Beall.
